Ash Wednesday

Published on March 4, 2025

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Holy Season of Lent. It is, for all Catholics, a day of Fasting – 1 main meal (Dinner/Lunch) and 2 small meals (Breakfast and Lunch/Dinner) with nothing in between, and Abstinence – no meat. The requirement to Fast does not apply to those over the age of 60 or those with a medical condition. The requirement to abstain from meat pertains to all Catholics.
It is also the day when we wear ashes on our forehead as an outward expression of our willingness to do penance, to turn away from sinful behaviour and turn back towards to GOD.
Blessed Ashes will be distributed after 9.30am Mass and after 7pm Mass in St Michael’s Church. Everyone is welcome.
